Got questions? You’re not alone.
Is hypnotherapy safe?
Yes. Hypnotherapy uses a natural, relaxed state of awareness that we drift in and out of every day - like when you’re driving a familiar route and suddenly realise you’ve arrived without remembering each turn. You’re never unconscious or out of control.
What if I can’t be hypnotised?
Everyone can experience trance differently - it’s a natural brain state, like when you're absorbed in a good book. I guide you gently and comfortably.
What does it feel like to be hypnotised?
Most people describe it as deeply restful - like that dreamy state between waking and sleeping. You’ll feel calm, comfortable, and quietly focused.
How many sessions will I need and how often will I need them?
This varies, but many people notice shifts within 6 - 12 sessions. You’re never tied in - we go at your pace and review progress regularly. Weekly sessions are a great starting point. As things progress, we may move to fortnightly or flexible blocks, depending on your needs and preferences.
Can you guarantee results?
I can’t promise outcomes. Therapy is a collaborative process, not something done to you. Your commitment and openness are key. What I can guarantee is that I’ll bring my full care, skill, and experience to support your goals.
Is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy like stage hypnosis?
Not at all! You remain completely in control and aware throughout. Trance is simply a relaxed, focused state - similar to mindfulness or daydreaming.
Will I be made to think or act differently?
No. Hypnotherapy doesn’t implant thoughts or override your will. It helps you access a calmer mindset where you can explore new perspectives and make choices that feel right for you.
Will I reveal personal secrets during trance?
No. You wont need to speak at all. You’ll simply be relaxed and listening.
Can I do this online?
Yes! Many of my clients prefer online sessions. All you need is a quiet, comfortable space and a stable connection. I use Zoom for my online sessions which you will need to download.
Are there any situations where hypnotherapy might not be suitable?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can be incredibly helpful but it’s not right for every situation. During our discovery call and initial consultation, we’ll explore whether it’s a good fit for your needs. In some cases, I may recommend alternative or additional support or refer you to another professional.
Here are some examples where hypnotherapy may not be appropriate as a standalone treatment:
Severe mental health conditions such as psychosis or unmanaged bipolar disorder. Hypnotherapy is contraindicated for people with psychosis. It can support people with bipolar disorder if it is well managed and with GP consent.
Certain personality disorders - including borderline personality disorder, narcissistic personality disorder, and antisocial personality disorder - typically need long-term, specialist psychological support. While hypnotherapy can sometimes complement other treatments, it isn’t suitable as the main approach for these diagnoses.
Crisis-level depression or suicidal thoughts - these require urgent, specialist care. Hypnotherapy may be a helpful part of recovery, but only after urgent care and appropriate interventions are in place.
Severe anxiety disorders that may need medical or multi-disciplinary support such as panic disorder. Hypnotherapy can be used in conjunction with other interventions.
Addiction and substance misuse - hypnotherapy can help, but not in isolation
Neurological conditions like epilepsy - hypnosis must be approached with caution and GP consent would be required prior to any hypnosis
Lack of motivation or consent - therapy only works if you’re ready and willing to engage.
If you’re unsure, I’m happy to talk things through and help you find the right path forward.
